This home has history. Here is some information provided by the seller: John Edmond Colton was born in Wisconsin in 1857. In April 1878 he moved to Minnehaha County where he filed a homestead claim for 160 acres of land. Their son, Charles, the first of nine children, was born in October 1879. In January of 1899 John and Paulina Colton filed a town site plat for the original village of Colton. In 1903, as their family continued to grow with the town, John and Paulina built this house(409 E 1st Street)on the corner of 1st and Minnesota Avenue and lived here with their children until moving to Mitchell in 1908.
