Local Area
The old town of Geyser, Montana was named for the bubbly mud geysers in the area. The present town location was moved where stagecoaches would rest for the night en route between Great Falls and Lewistown. Many generations continue to live in the same area that past immigrants who first settled in the area. Geyser is in Judith Basin County surrounded by four beautiful mountain ranges: Little Belt Mountains, Snowy's, Highwood's and the Judith's. Agriculture dominates the area economy as demonstrated by the golden wheat fields, emerald green hayfields or rolling landscape speckled with thriving cattle herds. The stretch of Highway 87 between Lewistown and Great Falls is named for the legendary western artist Charlie Russell as the Charlie Russell Trail. His experiences as a cowboy in this area inspired many of his paintings.
