In April, 2011, a wildfire impacted several homes and structures in Mano Prieto Estates and in nearby Fort Davis. Two outbuildings on this property were destroyed in the fire and their foundations remain visible. Several of the trees, cacti, and native plants and grasses on the home-site acreage were burned and although stressed are showing signs of recovery. The Texas Forest Service has counseled landowners to allow up to six months for signs of plant and tree recovery. The extent and duration of the West Texas monsoon season will have a significant impact on the recovery of the local fauna.
