The home now sits on 42 acres. The ceilings are hand planed board and run the length of the rooms. Floors are heart of pine. In addition to the main home, there are 5 cottages. One of these is originally served as a doctor's office and drugstore and was built in the early 1870's then moved to the farm in 1972. It was modernized and has a living room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and complete kitchen. There is also another cottage that was built around 1900 and moved to the farm from Louisiana. Three other cottages were recently built in 2005, 2007 and 2009. There is also a gazebo that was built around one of the original wells.
Construction
The home was constructed all of wood cut from Cedar, Cypress and Heart of Pine found on the original 800 acre tract of property. Bricks were used that were hand made from clay found on the property.
The property is located in Shelbyville, TX on the original road that ran from Logansport, LA to San Augstine, Tx,
which joined with the Camino Real. The original road can still be seen in front of home. Shelbyville along with
San Augstine are the two oldest English settlements in Texas. The subject property was part of the original Shelbyville community which at one time was known as neutral ground or no-mans land. It was here where the battle between the Moderators and the Regulators was fought. There is 60,000 acres of governement
