This is arguably one of the finest deer hunting tracts in South Carolina. It has been
owned by the same family for generations and hunted only by family members and a few
friends. Hunting pressure has been light and the occasional harvests have been limited
to "wall-hangers" and there have been some nice ones! Along with adjoining property
owners, including Buckhaven Plantation, these lands have been trophy managed for many
years and have produced numerous bucks that scored well with Boone and Crockett,
including two of the top 10 bucks recorded in SC in 1997! In addition to trophy bucks,
this tract has a very good wild turkey population as well as most species of small game.
This is not the standard "cookie cutter" tract like so many owned by timber companies that are wall to wall planted pines with little other habitat. This tract has a lot of
growing timber and a lot of dive...
growing timber and a lot of diversity. It has been managed to produce good timber but not
at the expense of wildlife. There are different age class stands of planted Loblolly and
Longleaf pines but all of them are broken up by groves of mature Live Oaks, White Oaks,
and many other mast producing hardwood trees. The property is well-drained and accessible
by numerous roads, fire breaks, and food plots. Many deer stands and feeders are
strategically placed throughout this tract.
