Deer and duck hunting duo on this mixed-use property! As I walked this property what struck me most was the diversity and dual use opportunity of deer and ducks. There are at least three bodies of water that the ducks are pouring into right now. I jumped woodies offering tight close shooting opportunities and flushed a half dozen grouse. I most certainly would have limited out had I had a shotgun. The timber was thinned a number of years ago creating a nice mixed age timber stand with a beautiful park-like white oak ridge that was raining acorns. The land is bordered on two sides by Taylor County land adding to the vastness of the woods and hunting opportunities. With many Northern Wisconsin woods, you are surrounded by endless flat swamps and timber, but here the glacier scooped out the famous Kettles that have filled with water and created a ton of edge and hogback ridges throughout. I found upland white and red oaks, lowland Tamarack, regenerating popple, marsh grass openings, small intimate potholes and large standing timber duck ponds. A very noteworthy feature was the old logging road that split the property. This offers excellent access for deer hunting but also allows you to pull your duck boat right to the water’s edge. Beavers are another cool feature. These little creatures drop trees on the pond edges allowing sunlight to regenerate the browse and they create dams that allow deer to use as bridges across the streams. Read any book on deep woods hunting and you will read about old beaver dams as ambush points. Overall, there is a lot of character packed into this property.
