If you like to striper fish or catfish the Staunton River is about 10 minutes away. They striper run this river really good in the spring and fall. There have been several catfish caught weighing over 50 pounds, The Staunton River feeds into the Roanoke River that feeds into Buggs Island Lake / Kerr Lake.
About 25 minutes to the north east is Red Hill, the home of Patrick Henry located in Charlotte County. July forth they have an all day event showing how soap and candles are made, quilting etc ending with a spectacular fireworks show looking out over the Staunton River Vally. A great day to spend with the family. In the fall they have a Bar-B-Que and Bluegrass festival.
Brookneal is the closest town and it's about 15-18 minutes away and it's in Campbell County. The famous Drug Store Grill famous for its Bar-B-Que and ribs is located in Brookneal. They serve 3 meals a day, do catering and have weekly entertainment. South Boston is about an hour away to the south. South Boston has all the amenities from a hospital, Walmart, Tractor Supply and various great places to eat.
