The Ichetucknee Springs State Park is 12 miles south of Florida Hills. The Ichetucknee River flows six miles through shaded hammocks and forests before it joins the Santa Fe River. The upper 3.5-mile stretch of the river is protected in the state park and contains eight major springs, each with its own charm. In 1972, the head spring of the river was declared a National Natural Landmark, and today the upper river remains Floridas most pristine spring-fed river. Because of its natural beauty, from the end of May until early September the Ichetucknee is Floridas most popular tubing destination. Visitors also enjoy swimming, canoeing, snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking, wildlife viewing, and picnicking.
