The gracious c.1789 home is rich with antique features such as wide board wood floors, exposed beams, country kitchen, built-ins, gunstock corners, front and back staircases, woodstove and fireplace. In the ell is the recently renovated, spacious country kitchen (14 x 26). Its a great mix of old and new, with wide board flooring, a huge brick island with the original copper boiling tub and stovetop remaining intact. The floor plan has been modified to accommodate a La Cornue five burner gas stove and double oven, a large pantry cupboard and farmers sink. This kitchen has all the modern amenities you'll need with top of the line appliances and corian counters, while still retaining the charm of yesteryear. Off the kitchen is a new farmers porch and hot tub, what a perfect place to entertain or have coffee and watch the seasons change over the pond.
From the kitchen enter the dining room that has been opened up to the family room. A new wood burning fireplace, wide plank flooring and exposed beams add to the warmth and charm while new windows bring in more light. A wide center hall and staircase grace the more formal entry and separates the living room from a spacious and private office. Tucked in down the hall is an additional bedroom and bath with laundry, perfect for guest quarters or private den.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, a family bath and a master suite. Part of the recent renovations added a staircase to the newly finished attic with lots of additional square footage that could be a family/exercise or guest room. All of the rooms have been updated with new carpet and paint. The Master Suite is all new with a beautiful new bathroom and walk-in closet that leads to the back staircase in to the kitchen, so early risers wont disturb anyone as they attend their chores.
The entire home was upgraded with new windows, doors, a Fabral metal roof, and spray foam insulation from the attic to the cellar. Owning a wonderful antique home that has been energy updated provides the charm you can't find in a new home with the benefits of modern efficiency to keep heating and cooling costs in check.
From the back of the kitchen through the mudroom, pass the workshop, you'll enter directly into the attached antique Yankee barn. In the back corner youll find a chicken coop with layer box just waiting for your hens to supply you with farm fresh eggs, the old cow stalls still in place and it still has plenty of room to accommodate most anything you could need. The flooring in the main aisle is made from rugged elm planks that will continue to serve for many more years. Above the main floor is a two-tiered hayloft providing plenty of storage. Below the barn is shed space with granite walls and a front to back drive through aisle. The current owners kept the horses here with easy turnout to the paddocks. The barn's roof was recently replaced and the underpinings have been repaired and drainage addressed so this barn will stand straight and tall for many more years.
