An Irish immigrant, Patrick McGuire, in 1833, commissioned Prussian born American architect, Adolphus Heiman, and Tennessee master builder Nathan Vaught to draft and construct the home that would be known as the MayesFrierson House. The home was originally conceived by McGuire as a wedding present to his daughter, Ellen, and her betrothed, Roger Bradley Mayes. The resulting home became the setting for lavish entertainment for some of the most notable persons of the day.
