An Irish immigrant, Patrick McGuire, in 1833, commissioned Prussian born American architect, Adolphus Heiman, and Tennessee master builder Nathan Vaught to draft and construct the home that would be known as the MayesFrierson House. The home was originally conceived by McGuire as a wedding present to his daughter, Ellen, and her betrothed, Roger Bradley Mayes. The resulting home became the setting for lavish entertainment for some of the most notable persons of the day. A Victorian cottage was added to the home in 1889 is an attached wing to the main house. Amazing features include 11 fireplaces with cast iron mantels, two front porches, a balcony, brick and limestone patios, an abundance of pocket and tri-fold doors, and seven crystal chandeliers. According to the Maury County Visitor's Bureau, the home itself has made a couple of appearances in movies and documentaries about the South.
