Historic Prairie Plains West of Tuttle Creek Lake

A historic story is waiting to be told on this 120 acre farm that rests north of Manhattan, Kansas. This tract has remained in the same family for over 130 years, now sharing the history of Paleoindians that once resided on the tract. Estimated 11,000 yr B.P. by Kansas State University Department of Sociology Anthropology and Social Work that the tribe was present. Paleoindians or Paleoamericans are the first peoples who entered, and subsequently inhabited the Americas during the final glacial episodes of the late Pleistocene period. In 1987, an archaeological dig site was formed on the tract, resulting in the recovery of 123 artifacts of tools and pottery. Of this, 26 knives, 62 scrapers, 15 gravers, 2 spokeshaves, 2 perforators, 1 drill, 1 piece d’esquille, 3 discoids, and 4 biface fragments make up the tools.
