Degrodt was a resident of Quihi, TX and decided to construct a home to raise his four daughters and two sons. Degrodt bought land in 1901 along Verde Creek and raised sheep and goats. After his passing in 1957, the property fell into disrepair and was largely abandoned.

Abandoned and left for reclamation by nature, the home and remaining 22.25 acres of the original ranch property was purchased by a local Bandera couple and the long process of restoring the home began in 2011. Meticulously, the current owners pieced the home apart and renovated the electrical, plumbing, insulation, cooling/heating and every other aspect, to bring the home back to life. This process continued for nearly two years, during which they also constructed a matching shop/guest house, large carport, renovated the old chicken-house and well-house and added modern conveniences.
