A full basement, half stone, half poured concrete, stays warm and dry in the winter, cool and dry in the summer.  It is there, in the cold storage room, that you'll find the cache of last summer's vegetables.

          For the past 43 years the Edwards family have called this late 1800's farm house their home.  The fields and pastures have reverted to woods, and the barn which stood east of the house is now long gone.  And what a wonderful mix of hard and soft wood trees those woods are!  Firewood harvested therefrom has improved the forest and fuels their wood stove.  During my brief winter walk I stirred 4 deer, flushed 2 grouse and stumbled upon a snowshoe hare.  Cross shaped prints in the snow gave clue that turkey were another common resident of these woods.  During the winter months the area serves as a concentration yard for white tailed deer as a 150' change in elevation has a profound effect on snowfall totals in this region.

          A neighboring old farm house and barn is the gathering place for members of the Lowville Rod & Gun Club where activities include old fashioned barn dances, archery competition, trap and skeet.
