Construction on the main house for Render Plantation began in 1832 shortly after James Renders arrival in Meriwether County. The home was originally designed in the Plantation Plain style. An expansion in 1867 added size to the home for the expanding Render family. A major renovation was performed in 1907. An architect from Columbus, T. Firth Lockwood, was hired to transform the home into a neoclassical style that was popular in the early twentieth century South. The large porches, columns, and grand staircase were added to the home during this process.

Today, we still see the results of the Render familys vision for the home, along with the current owners efforts to rehabilitate the house. Every effort has been taken to maintain the period style of the home. Bead board ceilings are installed throughout the house, custom trim and furnishings take one back in time upon entering the house. Any viable, original materials from the original construction and 1907 renovation were used to maintain the historic look and feel of the home.
