MOTIVATED SELLER! ALL REASONABLE OFFERS CONSIDERED! Michigan Ontonagon River Home/Cabin for Sale! This charming homestead is located on a .46-Acre parcel located on the edge of the Village of Ewen, which is located on M-28, in North McMillan Township in south-central Ontonagon County. This town is about five miles west of the main north-south US-Highway 45 which goes through this part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The town celebrates its history - After the 1880s when the copper boom in the area had gone bust, it found prosperity in one of its other natural resources, the surrounding vast stands of giant white pine. Over the next two decades millions of board feet of lumber were cut near Ewen and shipped to markets in big cities to the south. With the logging came the development of the South end of the county. Ewen became a large boom town rivaling Ontonagon for the county seat. Ewen supplied the world's largest load of logs - 50 logs, 18 feet long, 36,000 board feet - and all pulled by a single team of horses - for the 1893 World's Fair held in Chicago, Illinois. The 27 million people who attended this Fair may have seen this Upper Peninsula marvel! For years after, Ewen had a replica load of logs that visitors came from far and near to see until it fell into disrepair and was dismantled. But not even time can erase that moment of glory. The South Branch of the Ontonagon River borders the property! The Ontonagon River, which gives its name to the county, is the largest river which flows into the south shores of Lake Superior just 32 miles to the north. The origins of the name are in the native Ojibwa language - Known as the ?river of the lost bowl? to the Ojibwa who lived at its mouth at the time of the coming of the Jesuit missionaries. The branch of the river that runs along the parcel provides 18 miles of Class II canoe/kayaking river. You can launch your boat from your yard and paddle along this stretch to see ghost towns of logging communities, and enjoy some great fishing! Brook trout in the Spring, and lots of Small mouth, with an occasional Muskie or Northern Pike. If you are into Trail Sports, Ewen is near the center of lots of fun - Just a quarter mile away is acess to a Multi-Use State Trail for hiking, mountain biking, and snowmobiling! The Bergland to Sidnaw Rail Trail is well known - Part of the MI-TRALE System, you can find miles and miles of loops that go through Ewen toward every direction!
