StoneFence Timberland, a first-class forest investment of 287 surveyed acres in Salisbury, NH is ready for its next steward. This scenic long managed conserved forest has significant timber and wildlife value, while offering excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. Continue the activities of the working forest sustainably and profitably while enjoying the amenities of conserved lands. The property begins about 1/4 mile northeasterly on Montgomery Road, a Class VI town road from paved North Rd. With long frontage on Montgomery Rd, access for timber harvests is well served with three maintained clearings which when not in forestry use, act as recreation trailheads. As with most Class VI town roads, it is generally a three-season road for motor vehicles but very usable in the remaining seasons.Since 2005, the property had been conserved and under a Conservation Easement (CE) held by the Society for Protection of New Hampshire Forests. This working forest’ easement conserves productive forest land and its capacity to produce sustainable crops, encourages habitat conservation, and allows traditional public recreation. Licensed foresters are needed to prepare a forest management plan and supervise harvests. No development is allowed but a < 300 sq foot camp is permitted. The CE works well and with minimal effort, is sustainable, and achieves its main purpose of land protection and support for working forests. This productive forest has been professionally managed for the last two owners, and the forest shows it, by its’ diversity, timber quantity and quality. A recent timber inventory shows a well-stocked forest of mixed species, dominated by white pine, hemlock, red maple and red oak with volumes of 50+ gross cords/acre, indicating the standing value and potential for future income with proper silviculture. The last harvest completed was in 2023, northeast of Montgomery Road.Forestland acreage is estimated to be about 263 acres, or 92%, the other 24 acres, or 8%, being a large wetland, clearings and riparian area. Almost 90% of the total acreage lays north of Montgomery Road. The large wetland, brooks, and vernal pools provide superb wildlife habitat and can be experienced via the trail system of old farm roads and logging trails. Opportunities for hiking, skiing, and horseback riding abound. If you want to own a productive working forest while enjoying its benefits, explore the potential of this forest investment in south central New Hampshire.
