History: The history of settlement in the area goes back to the early cattle ranches, soldiers and buffalo hunters who came in the mid-1800s. Many famous ranches such as the Lambshead, Nail, Cook, Newell, Green and others are nearby. Fort Griffin, partially restored and part of the Texas Forts Trail, is located north of Albany. Albany is also home to the famous Bee Hive and Ice House restaurants, the Old Jail Art Center museum and The Fort Griffin Fandangle, an annual musical telling the history of the area and performed by almost 500 of the local residents. When oil was found in the area in the early part of the 1900s, it added another economic driver to the area, and Conrad Hilton started his famous career with his first hotel in Cisco (now a museum). Eastland, the county seat and courthouse, home to the legend of Old Rip, the Majestic Theatre, Connellee Hotel and numerous other restored buildings, museums, restaurants and shops.

Land: Sugar Springs Ranch has a wonderful Texas Hill Country feel throughout the property. Airports: Cisco airport has a 3,700 foot runway is closest to the property, but also nearby is the Cisco Gregory Simmons Memorial airport with a 6,500 foot runway and 7 day/week FBO. There are other airports with paved runways near the towns of Albany, Eastland and Breckenridge.
