A valley cuts through the southwestern edge of the ranch, creating dramatic views to the north and south. From the well-maintained dirt roads, you have access to both the lush creek bed and the high, rocky outcropping on the east. Directly north and over 40 miles away, the Davis Mountains rise up with Mount Livermore visible on clear days.

The ranch varies over 500 feet in elevation, from 4,100 to 4,660 feet at the highest, most northeastern side. Views sweep from the canyon up the mesa, and back west across Alamito Creek, extending over 30 miles to the Cienega Mountains and south to San Jacinto Peak. In the canyon, Auodad sheep and elk congregate and climb into the hills. The ranch's highest mesa offers an incredible vantage point for enjoying the exquisite high desert sunset.

Excellent, maintained dirt roads provide easy access to the entire ranch. Toward the center of the proeprty, near the northern well, a dirt tank and old rock cistern attract waterfowl and quail amongst other wildlife and feed irrigation lines across the parcel for livestock.

At the southwestern edge, the recently renovated Rock House is the ideal High Desert ranch home. Renovated in 2023 from ruins of a historic home, the 1,696 sf house now has high wood ceilings, concrete floors, fireplaces, and regionally appropriate finishes. The living room has expansive glazing and access to the south-facing patio. The master bedroom has its own fireplace, entrance, and a luxurious bath. Alamito Ranch has been engaged in grassland restoration through a series of EQIP programs. These programs aim to remove invasive species by utilizing spiking and grubbing. Big Bend Telephone fiber runs into the ranch along a county road with overhead Rio Grande Cooperative series across much of the acreage.

A cattle operation has continued as part of the grassland restoration with the foremost priority being restoration of rangelands to their natural pre-agribusiness state. Reestablishment of native vegetation, the maintenance of healthy soils, and the conservation of local watersheds have been essential elements to restore habitat in the Alamito Valley.

As the new owner of the Alamito Ranch, opportunities for continued involvement in the restoration projects are available or you may operate the ranch as you please, as there is no conservation easement in place.
