I’m sure you’ve heard it said before: “You can kill a big deer on 10 acres, if you have the right 10 acres”. Well folks, this is the right 60 acres! This farm is not your average whitetail hunting property. When you are in a neighborhood of exceptional deer managers, amazing things will happen to the deer herd over time. And before you scour the aerial map and toss this farm aside due to “lack of cover”, please go take a look at the trail camera pictures first. I’ll wait here….
If there is another farm in northern Missouri that has a more impressive collection of mature deer than this one, I haven’t seen it. This property kicks out slammer bucks year after year and the pictures clearly demonstrate that. If there is another farm in northern Missouri that has a more impressive collection of mature deer than this one, I haven’t seen it. This property kicks out slammer bucks year after year and the pictures clearly demonstrate that. The topographical contours and terrain roll on the property will tell a more complete story of how and why the deer use this farm as a hub of activity. The brushy draws that run through parts of the farm are the preferred travel ways for the area deer. And they can move through this property without being seen from any surrounding property or any road.
The farm has been enrolled in the CRP program for the last 10 years. The current contract will expire on September 30th of this year. With the contract expiring, you will have a blank canvas to do what you wish with the property. Parts of the farm could be put back into row crop production. Thicker stands of native warm-season grass could be established. The existing draws could be left to continue to grow and get “wooly”. You may also choose to reenroll the property into CRP down the road. There are a handful of existing food plots established in key ambush locations, but certainly, there is plenty of area here to significantly expand those. This farm does bump up to row crop on the NW side of it. The area around the ponds is much thicker and provides much more cover than the aerial would suggest. And you would be hard pressed to find a tree that has not been destroyed by these bucks last fall. The only way to get a true appreciation of this farm is to put a little boot leather on the ground. Please call David Brothers to schedule that walk at (660) 240-3243.
