NYS Fields and forest land bordering the East Branch of Fish Creek For Sale: A small brook winds its way through this half-wooded property, its final destination being the beautiful East Branch of Fish Creek.  Tree species found in these woods include native; sugar and red maple, black cherry, yellow birch, quaking aspen, white pine, red spruce, balsam fir and planted white spruce and larch.  There is no evidence of recent timber harvesting.  A thinning of the overcrowded stands at this time may be feasible and benefit the remaining trees by providing additional growing space.  Hawthorns, apple and red osier dogwood are the most prevalent trees and shrubs found in the retired farm fields and pasture that make up the other half of the property.  Gently rolling best describes the terrain. A very old, uninhabitable house trailer, with no water or septic, is found in the northwest corner of the property amongst the stone foundations and farm relics of the house and barn which once occupied the site.  It is a great location with a scenic view where one might choose to build a house or seasonal cabin.  Electric and cable utilities are available roadside. The gem of this Tug Hill property are the trout laden waters of the East Branch of Fish Creek found on its eastern border.  Native and stocked rainbow, brown and brook trout are said to thrive in this rapid filled, fast moving stream.  Public fishing rights exist along the shoreline and public access is limited to roadside areas designated by the DEC.  Wildlife sign is abundant, with whitetail deer being the most prevalent big game animal.  Three ruffed grouse flushed from the thick evergreen stands during my visit.  Woodcock, turkey and snowshoe rabbit are other game species one might expect to encounter in this area. This property is located near the core of one of the most popular snowmobiling destinations in the Northeast and lies just south and west of main corridor snowmobile trails C4A & B.  ATV enthusiasts can connect to all the major trails on Tug Hill from an access point on the Fish Creek Road, ~1.5 miles east of the property.  Two popular recreational destinations nearby include a 10-minute drive to the Snow Ridge Ski Center in Turin and a 15-minute drive to Whetstone Gulf State Park.  Grocery and department stores in Lowville and Rome are but 30 minutes away.Lewis County is a very rural and friendly part of the state.  For many, this property might be considered a peaceful haven, a wilderness retreat they could call their own.
